What research says

Allergies and intolerances

These are about people with an allergy, an intolerance or coeliac disease. The signal is about the ingredient itself, and these are about the person eating it, so the signal does not count them.

  • Reaction range to fruit3

Some people allergic to peach get only mouth tingling, while others can have a severe reaction.

  • Cross-reactive food reactions4

In southern Italy, peach sets off allergies to similar proteins in other foods, sometimes causing severe reactions.

  • Fruit allergy5

Peach allergies mostly come from proteins in the skin, not the flesh, a study of allergic people found.

  • Allergy test accuracy6

In peach-allergic people, Pru p 1 and Pru p 7 tests showed who got mouth symptoms and who got body-wide reactions.

  • Allergy severity marker7

In children with peach allergy, 16.3% were sensitised to Pru p 7, which was linked to more severe reactions.

  • Fruit allergy reactions8

In 716 adults, most tolerated peach, but peach caused anaphylaxis in 1.8% and breathing symptoms in some.

The signal at the top counts the findings in people and in animal and lab studies. A concern in studies of people outranks animal and lab studies, and “No concerns” needs at least one finding in people. When most findings in people point one way, the page leans that way (“Mostly”), and every finding is still shown. Findings whose study type is not stated are shown but not counted. This page is a reference, not medical advice. It describes what regulators and published research say. Talk to a doctor or dietitian about your own diet.
