Open question
Appetite and calorie burn3
In overweight adults, veal meals burned the same calories and left people just as hungry as cod meals.
Found in some samples or products
These come from where it was grown, how it was processed or cooked, or what it was made into. They are not about the ingredient itself, so the signal does not count them.
-
Food poisoning risk2
Veal liver can carry Campylobacter, and eating it undercooked was linked to infection in people over 45.
-
Symptoms after eating liver5
Twenty-two people felt shaky, had headaches, a racing heart and dizziness after eating veal liver containing clenbuterol.
-
Antibiotic withdrawal time6
Calves fed milk with antibiotic residues may carry those residues into veal, so a 20-day wait is suggested.
-
Bacteria risk in young calves7
Salmonella was found far more often on veal from very young calves than on veal from older, formula-fed calves.
-
Food poisoning from liver8
In veal liver samples, Campylobacter and Salmonella Dublin were found, and many were resistant to several antibiotics.
How it’s made and used
-
Cholesterol levels in people4
Eating veal as part of a low-fat diet changed cholesterol levels about the same as lean pork did.
The signal at the top counts the findings in people and in animal and lab studies. A concern in studies of people outranks animal and lab studies, and “No concerns” needs at least one finding in people. When most findings in people point one way, the page leans that way (“Mostly”), and every finding is still shown. Findings whose study type is not stated are shown but not counted. This page is a reference, not medical advice. It describes what regulators and published research say. Talk to a doctor or dietitian about your own diet.
